The concentrate of acid in refrigeration oil is expressed as an acid number in mg of KOH per gram of oil (milligrams of potassium hydroxide per gram of oil). The acid number is a measure of the amount of hydroxide solution needed to neutralise the acid in the oil. The more acid there is in the oil, the more potassium hydroxide is needed to neutralise it and so, the higher the acid number.

In the Nu-Calgon Phase III test, the acid number of 0.05mh KOH per gram of oil has been set as the maximum acceptable acid concentration in mineral oil and alkylbenzene oil. In polyol esters, the number is generally accepted as 0.16mg. Mineral and alkylbenzene oils with an acid number less than 0.05mg or POE’s with an acid number less than 0.16mg are acceptable and will cause no change in the colour of the test kit’s acid indicator. However, if the respective oils have an acid number greater than these limits, it will cause the acid indicator to change from purple to pink or clear indicating that the oil is contaminated.

  • Phase separation makes it easy to see colour changes in acid indicator
  • Use one kit for mineral oil, alkylbenzene, POE and PVE oils
  • Convenient – only two bottles to work with. No glass to break open since bottles have screw caps
  • Phase III is a highly accurate service tool that can save expensive compressor repair and replacement costs
  • Many systems will contain dyes, such as fluorescent coloured dyes, for leak detection purposes. These dyes render most acid tests useless; not Phase III. Because of its phase separation, Phase III makes it easy to test such systems
  • Handy Size – Several Phase III Test Kits can be carried conveniently in a tool box

Discover the Nu-Calgon 4320-W8 Phase III Universal Acid Test Kit: Your Ultimate Solution for HVAC System Maintenance

In the meticulous world of HVAC maintenance, precision is key. Introducing the Nu-Calgon 4320-W8 Phase III Universal Acid Test Kit, a revolutionary tool engineered to uphold the highest industry standards. Dive into a comprehensive analysis of acid concentration in mineral oil, alkylbenzene oil, and polyol esters with confidence, knowing that this kit sets the bar at an unmatched level of accuracy.

Setting the Acidic Threshold: Defining Acceptable Levels

In the Nu-Calgon 4320-W8 Phase III Universal Acid Test Kit, a stringent acid number of 0.05mh KOH per gram of oil reigns supreme as the maximum allowable concentration in mineral and alkylbenzene oils. For polyol esters, the accepted threshold stands at 0.16mg. Oils falling below these thresholds (0.05mg for mineral and alkylbenzene oils or 0.16mg for polyol esters) retain their pristine condition, leaving the acid indicator undisturbed in its regal purple hue. However, should the acid numbers exceed these limits, the acid indicator undergoes a transformation, shifting from purple to either pink or clear, signaling oil contamination.

Witnessing Clarity Through Phase Separation: A Visual Triumph

One of the 4320-W8 Phase III Universal Acid Test Kit’s remarkable features lies in its ability to facilitate effortless color changes in the acid indicator. Through phase separation, users can witness the transformation, gaining immediate insight into the oil’s acidity levels. This innovative method ensures quick and accurate results, empowering HVAC professionals to make informed decisions swiftly.

Versatility Redefined: Convenience in a Compact Form

Say goodbye to the hassle of dealing with multiple testing kits. The Nu-Calgon 4320-W8 Phase III Universal Acid Test Kit simplifies your toolkit, catering to mineral oil, alkylbenzene, polyol esters, and PVE oils—all with just one kit. Embrace convenience with screw caps that eliminate the risk of glass breakage, providing a seamless user experience. Its compact size makes it a portable powerhouse, allowing technicians to carry several kits comfortably within a toolbox.

Outsmarting Dyes: A Unique Advantage

In a world where HVAC systems often incorporate dyes for leak detection, traditional acid tests fall short. Not Phase III. Its phase separation feature renders it impervious to the interference of dyes, ensuring accurate results even in systems enhanced with fluorescent colored dyes. This exceptional capability sets Phase III apart, making it a trusted choice for professionals seeking reliable testing methods.

Guarding Your Investment: Cost-Effective Compressor Maintenance

Beyond its precision, Phase III serves as a shield against costly compressor repair and replacement expenses. By swiftly identifying contaminated oils, it empowers technicians to intervene proactively, preserving the integrity of the HVAC system and extending its lifespan. In the realm of HVAC maintenance, 4320-W8 Phase III Universal Acid Test Kit is not merely a tool; it’s a guardian, ensuring your investment remains in optimal condition.
